THE DOUBLE: PART ONE – THE PREMIERSHIP
Manchester United 0 – Arsenal 1
Old Trafford 8th May 2002
The 2001–02 Premiership season was one of the closest in years. England’s biggest clubs were fighting it out for the title and the destiny of the championship went down to the final week.
Arsenal put together a fantastic run of form, needing to win at Old Trafford to secure the title. Manchester United and Arsène Wenger’s Gunners pulled clear of the pack towards the end of the season.
In the decisive match at Old Trafford, Arsenal delivered a magnificent performance, reducing United to a handful of half chances. Freddie Ljungberg slotted home the winner after a brilliant through ball from Sylvain Wiltord, sealing the game and securing the first half of Arsenal’s historic double.
