On The Bus Party was founded in 2012 and has developed into a true celebration of festival culture. The stages host a vast range of music, keeping true to On The Bus’s eclectic nature.
Rock, Reggae, Swing, Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul, Drum and Bass, Trance and Techno could easily find themselves sat side by side with Cowpunk, Clowncore, Trip-Hop and Britpop.
Many festival-goers are looking for the next Glastonbury, but in the 70s Glastonbury was nothing like it is today. It was small, filled with local talents and supporters enjoying the beautiful British countryside to the sounds of music and the rhythms of dance.
That same feeling is captured at On The Bus. You may think it’s fifty years too late – and you might be right – but maybe the idea of On The Bus isn’t to “make it big like Glasto”, a place which is now filled with a thousand faces you’ll never know the names of.
Maybe the philosophy of the smaller festival is to consider the collective experience in the locality, to rebuild a community through song, dance and musical expression.
Therein lies the true purpose of the smaller festival and the reasons why we should all pack up our tents and hop on the bus.
